HEWDEN PROVIDES BP CORYTON REFINERY WITH STATE OF THE ART BLAST RESISTANT UNITS
Hewden, Europe’s largest rental equipment provider, is supplying BP with over 120 specially designed blast resistant accommodation units at its Coryton refinery in Essex as part of a maintenance shutdown programme worth over £500,000.
The units, designed and built by Ultra Secure Products Ltd are able to withstand a force of up to 320-millibar overpressure for 100 milliseconds, the equivalent of exerting an 80-ton force upon the unit. The units that have been fast tracked in their development meet the new stringent blast resistant regulations set out by BP and are unique to the hire sector.
“We have worked closely with BP and Ultra Secure Products Ltd to produce state of the art accommodation units that exceed the standard specification. These units clearly set the standard to our competitors and act as a testament to Hewden’s continued commitment to supplying the best possible products to match our customers requirements”, said Andrew Swallow, Head of Accommodation.
The accommodation units that went into manufacture in December are to be used to house personnel from BP and its contractors whilst general maintenance work is carried out on the fuel tanks and other appliances at the refinery.
“Health and safety is our number one priority when carrying out any kind of maintenance work. Hewden’s new accommodation units will enable us to carry out this work while ensuring that staff is working in the safest possible environment, said David Adair HSSE Manager, BP Coryton Refinery.
